Q: Hi there
we're cruising with Island on 1.1.09 Latin Caribbean, flying Thomas Cook or Virgin (not sure which as we haven't received any tickets yet) I seem to remember they only allow 15 or 20kg of luggage, we are a party of 6 with 3 kids, 15kilos each doesn't sound like much, can any of you seasoned lady cruisers advise me what you think would be the bare minimum of garments you could survive with on a 2 week cruise. I am thinking... a couple of pairs of shorts & tops, sandals, light jacket, and a dress for evenings, this would leave more space for kids stuff, would I need sturdy shoes for jungle excursions in costa rica?
thanks eversomuch

I have my tickets and it says allow 25kg per person. No single item over 23Kg is accepted. That's where folk are getting mixed up.It's less on shorter flights.Take sarongs and wear crocs or flip flops. They weigh nothing.

Hi all thanks so much for your answers, we have cruised before but never for 2 weeks and not in the Caribbean, our problem is our kids are home tutored and will be having their normal lessons in the library on sea days meaning we will be bringing books, pens, paper, calculators etc etc with us all taking up valuable space and weight in our luggage plus my daughters insist that they cant live without their collection of handbags/sunglasses/sequiny things and Nintendo's and my son is hoping to take his own snorkel gear...its looking like I will only have space for my bikini and a bare minimum of clothes, someone suggested wearing all my tops on the flight!! (i'm not going to try it) so it looks like I will have to use the ships laundry service or pay for extra baggage.

hiya if kids are paying for seats they will have luggage allowance as well so if you all get 15 to 20kg each you should have enough room but you cant have 20 odds in one case less in other does not work that wayyou must not go over your limit in one and less in other to make up all your allowance .have lovley cruise

If the flight is solely cruise pasengers the weight limit is increased with no extra charge. We've flown with Thomsonfly twice to the Carribean (sailing with Princess both occasions) and the weight limit per person was 25kg. However, just recently we have booked our flights to Madeira 2009 where we have a timeshare and we noticed that the flight now has a limit of 15kg per person with a £16.50 charge to increase it to 20kg per person. I enquired how this would affect cruise flights and I was told they have now reduced the weight limit to 23kg. So, hopefully if your flight is solely for cruise passengers, the weight limit will be more than what is is for package deals to the Europe, but less than what it was at Easter 2008. On a 2 week cruise, my wardrobe consisted of vest tops, shorts for daytime and in the evening I had two dresses (one for each formal night each week - we had three but we always just dressed up for two) and linen trousers, blouses, light skirts, strappy dresses but not over the top for other evenings. Best thing to do is take clothes that can be mixed and matched, especially cardigans for evenings as well into the holiday you will begin to feel the chill a bit, once you get a good tan! Remember, you can take your clothes to the laundrette on board ships or ask your steward to get them washed and ironed for you. I hope this has been some help to you.
