ISLAND STAR MED HOLIDAY REVIEW AUGUST 2008

Reviewed By: Vines, Market Harborough on 11th Aug 2008
Cruise Line: Island Cruises Times cruised before: 1-2
Cruise Ship: Island Star Sailed: August, 2008
Destination: Mediterranean Age: 36-45
We were on the Island Star last week, this is our first time on this ship after going on the Island escape last year, The flights all worked okay as did the transfers which were well organized by the Island cruises shore reps,The ship is very nice and clean and much bigger than the Escape, We had an oustide cabin on deck 4 ( bronze deck ) with a window rather than a porthole which was nice to watch the arrivals and sailaways, and very well cleaned by our cabin steward ( Herald).

The only thing we could complain about and has already been complained about by other reviewers on this site, is the young kids around the pools and the 2 jacuzzis, kids under 16 are not supposed allowed in the jacuzzis at any time, unless they are with an adult, However due to the pools being quite cold the kids seem to be always in the jacuzzis splashing and even doing "bombs" in there, and nobody seems to do much about it,We didnt do any of the Island excursions and they are way to expensive, but got off at every port to wander around on our own, it would have been nice to get to Pisa on our own but, the train station was on the other side of town which meant catching a bus or taxi then a train to Pisa then back again. ( its too risky unless you are very good with the language to enable you to get back to the ship on-time.)

The food as always was excellent in the Island restaurant with the waiters being attentive without being to pushy which they tended to be on the Escape, ( i think on the Escape they work very hard for a potential tip at the end of the week)

The entertainment was also excellent with nightly shows in the Ocean theatre, Some of the bars get very smokey which is a bit of a shock after being smoke free in england for sometime now.

The new captain of 3 weeks, Master captain John Clarke ( J.C. ) was also good fun and joined in with the ritual humilliation of the crew.

The week we went we had 3 comedians flew in from the Jongleurs comedy club who were very funny if not a bit near the knuckle for an audience which contained alot of kids, But they did do a adult only show at midnight on one night,

The ship cruises very well with only minimal movement ( i do really do the sea and i never feel uncomfortable ).

All in all a good weeks holiday, however we have been off the ship now for 3 days and are still wobbling ( need to regain our land legs).

Was on the same cruise as Vines, agree with the review, the children were in the jacuzzis when the security men weren't there. And also parents letting the children press all the lift buttons and playing on the stairs was totally stupid of them. There was one lad who looked as if he had already broken his elbow and was encased in a red pot. And agree with the childrens dance troop being, well,to be honest not very good!!(sorry) The captain was the best yet, (6 cruises under our belt) well done.
